Statement
David
graduated from Sunderland University with a BA (Hons) Fine Art
painting in 1993, and has been involved with the creative industries ever since.
In 1996 David undertook a PGCE in further education, focusing on teaching art and design to adults. From 1997 David worked as a freelance artist working with various communities around South Wales, winning awards, curating exhibitions and making and exhibiting artwork.
In 2005 David embarked on a parallel career with Cywaith Cymru Artworks Wales working as a public art project coordinator and finance assistant, eventually becoming a full time project manager. Cywaith and Cbat merged in 2007 to create Safle, the UK’s largest public art organisation. David managed projects ranging from temporary projects at the National Museum Wales, Swansea’s Waterfront Museum, to permanent public art works at NHS Cwm Taf, the debating chamber, Senedd building to St Davids 2 Cardiff redevelopment, among many many more. David has worked with budgets ranging from £25,000 to £660,000.
The duties included negotiating with client and steering groups, preparing tenders and art strategies, identifying and controlling budgets, writing artists briefs, selecting artists, organising meetings, project monitoring including studio visits, installation oversee and conclusion with evaluation.
In 2009 David moved to Suffolk to become a freelance arts consultant and artist, winning an AA2A place at UCS Ipswich.
